Advisory Overview

July 13, 2010 - Qualys® Vulnerability R&D Lab has released new vulnerability checks in QualysGuard® to protect organizations against vulenrabilities present in Oracle products that were announced today. Customers can immediately audit their networks for these and other new vulnerabilities by accessing their QualysGuard subscription.

Oracle has released security patches to fix newly discovered flaws in Oracle Windows.

THREAT: Oracle released a Critical Patch Update advisory for July 2010 that addresses several security vulnerabilities.

The following Oracle database components are affected:
* Application Express
* Export
* Listener
* Net Foundation Layer
* Network Layer
* Oracle OLAP

IMPACT: Successful exploitation allows an attacker to execute arbitrary code and conduct privilege escalation attacks.
SOLUTION: Oracle recommends that customers upgrade to the latest supported version of Oracle products in order to obtain the patches. Read Oracle Critical Patch Update Advisory - JULY 2010 for further information about the products affected and issues addressed.

This new vulnerability check is included in Qualys vulnerability signatures v1.26.119-3. Each QualysGuard account is automatically updated with the latest vulnerability signatures as they become available. To view the vulnerability signature version in your account, from the QualysGuard HOME menu, select the Account Info tab.

SELECTIVE SCAN INSTRUCTIONS USING QUALYSGUARD:

To perform a selective vulnerability scan, configure a scan profile to use the following options:

  1. Ensure access to TCP port 1526 or any other port where Oracle is listening.
  2. Enable Oracle Authentication (specify Authentication Records).
  3. Enable the following Qualys IDs:
    • 19524
  4. Enable QID 19233, 105329, 105330 for information on Oracle authentication.
